Face/Off
Directed by John Woo and written by Mike Werb and Michael Colleary, Face/Off (1997) is a high-octane action thriller that explores the ultimate identity swap. FBI agent Sean Archer (John Travolta) is obsessed with capturing his son’s killer, the sociopathic freelance terrorist Castor Troy (Nicolas Cage). Following a captured Troy’s lapse into a coma, Archer undergoes an experimental face-transplant surgery to go undercover as the villain and foil a biological ticking time bomb.
The mission takes a disastrous turn when Troy unexpectedly wakes up and forces the same surgeon to transplant Archer’s face onto him. What follows is a stylized, bullet-riddled game of cat-and-mouse where both men must live as their greatest enemy while trying to convince their families and allies of their true identities. It is widely considered a masterpiece of the "heroic bloodshed" genre.
