Young Guns
Directed by Christopher Cain and written by John Fusco, Young Guns (1988) is a revisionist Western depicting a heavily fictionalized account of Billy the Kid and the Regulators during the Lincoln County War in New Mexico, 1877–78. Emilio Estevez stars as the mercurial William H. "Billy the Kid" Bonney, alongside Kiefer Sutherland, Lou Diamond Phillips, Charlie Sheen, Dermot Mulroney, and Casey Siemaszko as his fellow gunmen. The ensemble cast gave the film an association with the "Brat Pack" generation of 1980s actors.
The first film produced by Morgan Creek Productions, Young Guns opened at number one at the US box office and spawned a 1990 sequel. New Mexico historian Paul Andrew Hutton called it the most historically accurate cinematic treatment of Billy the Kid to that date.

Young Guns was filmed principally on location in Santa Fe County, New Mexico, using the area's dramatic desert and mountain landscapes to recreate Lincoln County of the 1870s.

The small historic mining town of Los Cerrillos, situated on Route 14 between Santa Fe and Albuquerque, was redressed to resemble an 1870s Lincoln County township. The town's adobe architecture and dusty streets provided an authentic period backdrop. Map Location

Many of the key scenes were filmed at Bonanza Creek Movie Ranch in Santa Fe, a working film ranch that has hosted numerous Westerns including Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and James Mangold's remake of 3:10 to Yuma. Map Location
