Appearance
Young Sherlock Holmes
Directed by Barry Levinson and produced by Steven Spielberg, Young Sherlock Holmes (1985) imagines a meeting between teenage Sherlock Holmes and John Watson at a London boarding school. The duo quickly finds themselves embroiled in a mystery involving a series of hallucinogenic-induced "suicides" linked to a sinister Egyptian cult.
The film is a landmark in cinematic history, featuring the first-ever fully computer-generated character (the stained-glass knight), created by the team that would later become Pixar.
Locations
To recreate Victorian England, the production utilized several historic English estates, universities, and specialized film studios.
Belton House, Lincolnshire
The exterior of the Brompton Academy, where Holmes and Watson go to school, was filmed at Belton House. This 17th-century country house provided the grand, scholarly atmosphere required for the film's setting. The formal gardens and stables were also used for various outdoor school sequences.
