Kick-Ass
Directed by Matthew Vaughn and based on the comic book by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr., Kick-Ass (2010) is a subversive, ultra-violent take on the superhero genre. Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars as Dave Lizewski, an ordinary teenager who decides to become a real-life superhero despite having no powers or training. His life takes a lethal turn when he encounters the father-daughter vigilante duo Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) and Hit-Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz), who are on a mission to take down crime boss Frank D'Amico.
The film is famous for its stylized action, dark humor, and for launching Chloë Grace Moretz into stardom with her controversial and high-octane performance as the foul-mouthed Hit-Girl.
Locations
Set in Staten Island and Manhattan, the production was actually a hybrid shoot between the United Kingdom and Toronto, Ontario, with only a few key exterior shots filmed in New York City.
Dave’s Neighborhood, Hamilton, Ontario
While Dave is meant to live in Staten Island, most of the neighborhood street scenes and the exterior of Dave's house were filmed in Hamilton, Ontario. The city's residential streets provided a look that closely mirrored the working-class boroughs of New York. Map Location

The "Atomic Comics" shop where Dave and his friends hang out was filmed at a storefront on Queen Street West in Toronto. This area is well known for its vibrant street culture and provided the perfect urban backdrop for the teenagers' frequent meet-ups.
The First Fight, Toronto
The scene where Kick-Ass first intervenes in a fight outside a diner—which is caught on camera and goes viral—was filmed on Portland Street at the corner of Richmond Street West in Toronto. The "diner" was a set dress for a local building in the area. Map Location

Elstree Studios, Hertfordshire, UK
The majority of the film’s complex interior sets, including Big Daddy’s weapon-filled safehouse and the interiors of the D'Amico penthouse, were built at Elstree Studios in England.
