Appearance
The Karate Kid
Directed by John G. Avildsen and written by Robert Mark Kamen, The Karate Kid (1984) is a quintessential underdog story that defined a generation. The film follows Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), a teenager who moves from New Jersey to Reseda, Los Angeles, with his mother. Daniel quickly becomes the target of a group of bullies from the Cobra Kai karate dojo, led by the ruthless Johnny Lawrence.
To defend himself, Daniel seeks the help of his apartment's unassuming repairman, Mr. Miyagi (Noriyuki "Pat" Morita), who happens to be a master of karate. Through unconventional training methods like "wax on, wax off," Miyagi teaches Daniel that karate is about much more than just fighting—it's about balance, honor, and discipline. The journey leads to a climactic showdown at the All Valley Karate Tournament, where Daniel must face his fears and the Cobra Kai.
