The Davinci Code

Directed by Ron Howard and based on Dan Brown’s massive bestseller, The Da Vinci Code (2006) is a high-stakes religious thriller that follows Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) as he becomes the prime suspect in a bizarre murder at the Louvre Museum. To clear his name, Langdon teams up with French cryptologist Sophie Neveu (Audrey Tautou) to follow a trail of cryptic clues hidden within the works of Leonardo da Vinci.

Their quest leads them to a centuries-old secret society known as the Priory of Sion, which allegedly guards a truth about the Holy Grail that could shatter the foundations of traditional Christianity. As they race across Europe, they are hunted by both the French police and a radical sect of the Catholic Church, turning a historical mystery into a life-or-death chase for the truth.

Location(s)

The Davinci Code was filmed across several historic locations in France, England, Scotland, and Malta. While the book visits many famous sites, the film had to get creative when certain religious institutions refused to grant filming permission.

The Louvre Museum in Paris

One of the film's biggest coups was getting permission to film inside the actual museum at night. However, they were not allowed to shine bright lights on the real Mona Lisa, so a replica was used for close-ups. Map Location

Church of Saint-Sulpice in Paris

The production used the exterior of this famous church. However, because the church was unhappy with the book’s portrayal of its history, the interior scenes were mostly recreated using sets and green screens. Map Location

Château de Villette

This 17th-century estate in Condécourt served as the home of Sir Leigh Teabing (Ian McKellen). Map Location
