V for Vendetta

Directed by James McTeigue and written by the Wachowskis, V for Vendetta (2005) is a powerful political thriller based on the graphic novel by Alan Moore and David Lloyd. Set in a future, dystopian United Kingdom under the rule of the fascist Norsefire party, the story follows Evey Hammond (Natalie Portman), a young woman who is rescued from the secret police by a masked vigilante known only as "V" (Hugo Weaving).

V, an expert in combat and deception, uses terrorist tactics to fight against his oppressors and subvert the totalitarian state. As Evey becomes V's unlikely ally, she uncovers the truth about his past and the government's rise to power. The film explores themes of personal freedom, justice, and the power of individual identity, culminating in a revolutionary call for the people to rise up against their masters on the 5th of November.

Location(s)

While set in a futuristic London, the film utilized a mix of iconic British landmarks and German studio facilities to create its distinctive, oppressive atmosphere.

Houses of Parliament, London

The ultimate target of V's revolution, the Palace of Westminster, features prominently throughout the film. For the spectacular finale, the production was granted rare permission to film in Whitehall, which was closed for three nights to accommodate the massive crowd of protesters in Guy Fawkes masks. Aldwych Disused Station, London

The "Shadow Gallery," V’s secret underground lair filled with forbidden art and culture, was partly inspired by and filmed within the abandoned Aldwych tube station. The station’s tunnels and platforms provided the perfect subterranean hideout for a revolutionary. Map Location

Babelsberg Studio, Potsdam, Germany

Due to the complexity of the sets—including the high-tech Jordan Tower and the interior of the Old Bailey—much of the film was shot at Babelsberg Studio. This historic studio allowed the filmmakers to create the controlled, sterile environment of the Norsefire regime. Map Location
