The Waterboy
Directed by Frank Coraci and written by Tim Herlihy and Adam Sandler, The Waterboy (1998) is a classic sports comedy that introduced the world to Bobby Boucher (Adam Sandler). Bobby is a socially awkward, stuttering water boy for a high-level college football team who is constantly bullied by the players and staff. Under the overprotective eye of his mother, Mama Boucher (Kathy Bates), Bobby lives a sheltered life in the Louisiana bayou.
After being fired from his long-time job, Bobby finds a new home with the struggling South Central Louisiana State University Mud Dogs. When Coach Klein (Henry Winkler) discovers that Bobby has a hidden talent for tackling—fueled by years of suppressed "visualized" anger—Bobby becomes the team's secret weapon. The film follows Bobby’s hilarious journey from outcast to gridiron hero, leading his team toward the Bourbon Bowl while trying to keep his football career a secret from his mama.

While the film is set in the heart of Louisiana, the majority of the production actually took place in Central Florida, utilizing local stadiums and the lush, moss-draped scenery of the region to stand in for the bayou.
