Waking Ned
Directed by Kirk Jones, Waking Ned (known as Waking Ned Devine in North America) is a charming and hilarious comedy set in the tiny, fictional Irish village of Tulaigh Mhór (Tullymore). When local resident Ned Devine dies of shock after winning the national lottery, his two best friends, Jackie O'Shea (Ian Bannen) and Michael O'Sullivan (David Kelly), discover the winning ticket in his hand. Rather than let the money go to waste, the entire village of 52 people conspires to commit a massive, good-natured fraud by pretending Ned is still alive.
The film was a massive international sleeper hit, praised for its warmth, its eccentric ensemble cast, and the iconic scene of an elderly Michael O'Sullivan racing a motorbike through the countryside in the nude.
Locations
Despite being set in a remote part of Ireland, the film was shot almost entirely on the Isle of Man, which provided the rugged coastal scenery and quaint village atmosphere required for the story.
Cregneash, Isle of Man
The picturesque village of Cregneash served as the primary location for the fictional Tullymore. Most of the village scenes, including the houses of Jackie and Ned, were filmed here. Cregneash is a living museum, preserved to show how people lived in a traditional Manx crofting village, making it the perfect double for a remote Irish hamlet. Map Location
Port Isaac / Port Erin
Various coastal shots and the harbor scenes were filmed in and around Port Erin on the Isle of Man. The dramatic cliffs and the crashing Atlantic waves helped establish the isolation of the village. The famous "naked motorbike" sequence was filmed along the road leading to The Sound, the southern tip of the Isle of Man overlooking the Calf of Man. The winding roads and spectacular coastal vistas provided a visually stunning (and comedically exposed) backdrop for Michael's desperate ride to intercept the lottery inspector. Map Location

The interior of the local pub, where the villagers hatch their plan and eventually celebrate their windfall, was filmed in Laxey. The cozy, traditional atmosphere of the pub served as the communal heart of the film's narrative. Map Location
Niarbyl, Isle of Man
The beautiful, secluded bay at Niarbyl was used for several of the film's outdoor vistas. Its ancient stone cottages and jagged rocks added to the timeless, atmospheric feel of the rural setting. Map Location
