The X Files

Directed by Rob Bowman and written by Chris Carter, The X Files: Fight the Future (1998) is the cinematic expansion of the hit television series. Set between seasons five and six, the story finds FBI Special Agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) pulled off the X-Files and assigned to a routine bomb threat in Dallas.

When the building explodes anyway, Mulder is contacted by a mysterious figure who suggests the bombing was a cover-up for something far more extraterrestrial. The agents are thrust into a global conspiracy involving a prehistoric "black oil" virus and a shadowy government syndicate. From the deserts of Texas to the icy wilderness of Antarctica, Mulder and Scully must risk their careers and lives to uncover the truth before the colonization of Earth begins.

Location(s)

The film significantly expanded the scope of the series by moving production from its usual Vancouver haunts to expansive locations across California and London.

Fiddleneck Creek, California

The opening prehistoric sequence and the North Texas desert "Blackwood" site were actually filmed in the high desert of California. The production dug massive holes in the ground to simulate the discovery of the alien virus. Map Location

Los Angeles City Hall

Standing in for several government interiors, the grand architecture of LA City Hall provided the necessary scale for the FBI hearings and the clandestine meetings of the Syndicate. Map Location

Canary Wharf, London

While most of the film was shot in the US, some of the futuristic and sterile architectural shots used for the "Syndicate" corporate offices were filmed in the Canary Wharf district of London, adding to the global feel of the conspiracy. Map Location
